The Process

Complete the steps below to correctly fill in a fact sheet on your explorer, assemble the contents of your chest, and present your findings to the museum panel.

1.    Choose an Explorer from the Explorer Research Table, and complete the Explorer Research Worksheet.

Because there are so many objects to create for your chest, you might find it best to divide the work and assign the steps below to individuals in your group.

2.    Make an Explorer’s Journal.  Use Explorer Journal Planning Sheet as a guide.

3.    Make at least on Navigation Tool. Use the Navigation Tool Sheet as a guide.

4.    Make a map of the explorer’s route. Use the World Map to trace your route(s).

5.    Make Artifacts. Use the Artifacts Sheet as a guide.

6.    Make a timeline. Use the Timeline Directions Sheet to create a timeline on the computer. Or you may do a hand written time line.

7.    Make a Treasure Chest. Your teacher will provide boxes, you will need to make them look authentic!

8.    Present your Treasure Chest to the panel for approval. Use the Presentation Directions as a guide.

9.    While groups other than your own are presenting you will be asked to be a member of the panel from the Boston History Museum. Use the Boston History Museum Evaluation Sheet to access weather the treasure chest is authentic.
