The Task

You will be put into team of three or four. You will become the archeologists that discovered the chests in Hyannis Harbor. These chests may have belonged to famous explorers. With this discovery you may become famous as well. But first, your team will need to prove to a panel from the Boston History Museum that the treasure chest that you found is authentic. You will need to choose an explorer from the list provided, create accurate artifacts for the chest, and present your finding to the panel.

Your chest should contain the following:

  • A Explorer’s journal or log
  • Navigation tools
  • Map of the explorer’s route
  • Timeline
  • Artifacts or discoveries

If your team of archeologists does their job right, the panel (the class) will be in agreement that your chest is authentic, and your team will be on the way to a good grade (see evaluation page). If you team omits items in the chest or any information is incorrect, the panel may dismiss your chest as a fake, and your team may need to do more work to achieve a good grade (see evaluation page).
